Musician, Jazz pianist. Fourth son of Benito Mussolini, he began studying jazz music and piano as a self-taught since the end of the 30's, despite this genre of music was banned by the fascist regime. However, during those years he had the opportunity to meet musicians like Duke Ellington of which later became a good friend. His career as professional musician started after the end of World War II, initially performing under the name of Roman Full because of his awkward surname. In the 50s Romano founded the band "Romano Mussolini All Stars" and recorded his first album (1958) with the singer Lilian Terry and some of the best known Italian jazz musicians of that era, including the bandleader and bass player Carlo Loffredo. In 1963, his album "Jazz at Studio 7" was awarded as the best album of the year and this allowed him to perform abroad with big names of jazz music such as Chet Baker, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie and Tony Scott. In the following years he devoted himself to the composition and execution of film soundtracks, and in tandem with the Conductor Roberto Pregadio composed music regarded by critics as masterpieces of sound experimentation. He recorded several albums including "Mirage", "Soft & Swing", "The Wonderful World of Louis", "Blues Music", "Timeless Blues," "Roman, Piano & Forte" and "Jazz Album". Towards the end of his career, Romano was also a painter very much appreciated by art critics thanks to the clever use of color in painting clowns who were his favorite subjects. Speaking of his paintings he used to say :"They shall not communicate any particular message or hidden, I care that they are only beautiful to the eye".
