Charles D. Hain passed away at his home on west Colfax Street last Thursday, having been unconscious for about two days. He had suffered for some time with a cancer of the of the bladder, it was very painfully at times. He had been in bed for a week but last Monday he got up and dressed himself and came up town by sheer will power. The funeral service was held at the residence at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. O. U. McPround, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Mr. Hain was born in Berkes County, Pennsylvania March 2nd, 1859. So was nearing his 67th birthday. At the age of 17 he came west and spent two years in the Black Hills country, coming to this county in 1878 which had been his home ever since. On February 15th, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary J. Tyson and nine children were born to them, one dying in infancy and Stanley E. died at the age of 23 while serving his country in the late World War. The local American Legion post is named after him, the first soldier to give up his life from this community. The other children are Mrs. E. Haller, of Arlington; Watson, Mrs. Walter Appleby, Edith, Howard, George and Mrs. Lyle Gilbert, all of Blair. There are 8 grandchildren in whom he took much pleasure, after residing on his farm north of Blair for some thirty years he moved to the city some three years ago. Since he came here he took an active interest in city affairs, became a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and seemed to enjoy the freedom from farm labor that city life offered him. His jovial disposition made him many friends and it to be regretted that he might not have had a longer period of rest and enjoyment after his retirement from active business life. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of all who knew him and them.
