Frank Hoene, former schoolmaster at Green Creek School, passed away March 27, 1909. He was born in Dinklage, Germany, the fourth son of John Henry and Maria Elizabeth Pulsfort Hoene. He was educated at the University of Vechta and came to the United States in 1860 with his parents and brother. He purchased property at Green Creek in 1864 and married Elizabeth Aumann in 1867. He later operated a sawmill and steam threshing machine.
His wife survived him, along with four sons John, Joe, Frank and Henry, and three daughters Catherine, Mary and Elizabeth. Two other children died as infants. After his death, most of his family moved to Idaho, except Henry, who stayed in Effingham County.
