Caleb Davis held several positions of public trust, including state legislator, 1776–1788; Speaker of the Massachusetts General Court, 1780–1782; and Elector for Massachusetts' Suffolk County in the first U.S. presidential election in 1789. (His Honor Caleb Davis preferred to be called by his title of Deacon)

TOMB 18 - No. 123 CALEB DAVIS TOMB. No. 18 CALEB DAVIS TO GEO. C. SHATTUCK.: Caleb Davis sold this tomb to his son-in-law, George Shattuck; who in turn removed his immediate family to Mount Auburn 4 Oct 1837. It does appear that Eliza Cheever (Davis) Shattuck removed her mother to Mount Auburn. Most times tomb burials came over in a large container with only one name given, and Mount Auburn does claim they are here.
