EARLY FONTANELLE RESIDENT PASSES

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6 at the Salem Lutheran church in Fontanelle for Peter Bentrup, 76, pioneer resident of that vicinity. Mr. Bentrup died at his home in Fremont Saturday, Oct. 3, following a long illness.

The deceased was born in Germany in 1855, and came to America at the age of sixteen years, coming directly to the Fontanelle neighborhood where he farmed until eight years ago when he moved to Fremont.

He is survived by his wife who was Mary Strenger of Fontanelle before her marriage, a daughter, Mrs. W. F. Boldt of Fremont and a granddaughter, also of Fremont.

Biographical Information

Peter Heinrich Bentrup was born on 18 March 1855 and christened on 25 Mar 1855 at Evangelische, Herford, Westfalen, Prussia. His parents were identified as Johann Heinr. Bentrup and Anne Margarethe Stipp. ~ Germany Births and Baptisms, 1558-1898

Peter immigrated in around 1871, and in 1880, he was residing in household of Henry and Rieke Wilkening, who were his brother-in-law and sister.

Peter Bentrop and (Dorthea) Louisa Amelia Hilkenmeyer were married on March 7, 1884 in Washington County, Nebraska. Dorothea passed away in 1889. Peter was then married to Mary Stringer on February 12, 1890 in Washington County, Nebraska.

In 1900, Peter, Mary, and family were residing in Lincoln Township, Washington, Nebraska. By 1910, they were residing in Fontanelle, Washington, Nebraska. By 1920, the couple has relocated to Winslow, Dodge county, where they shared a home with Mary's brother, William Strenger. By 1930, the couple was residing in Fremont with their daughter, Bertha Boldt, their son-in-law, William, and their granddaughter, Faith Boldt, who was born ca 1915-16 in Nebraska.
