Jack Lynn Ownby, 83, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church serving in many areas over the years, most recently the Food Ministry and care of the cemetery. He was a veteran of the Korean War and had retired from Bowater after 35 years as a mechanic.

His love of family and his devotion to his wife, daughter, and grandson were foremost in his life. He was an avid reader and he loved history with a particular interest in the Civil War. He loved the outdoors and his favorite activity was hiking in the Smokies. He loved to share his knowledge and his stories with others. His desire to help others was the guiding principle of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl M. and Iota Parton Ownby, brothers, Hayes L. and J. C. Ownby and sister, Mary Helen Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Wooten Ownby, daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Victor Hicks, grandson, Jason Elliott and his wife, Caysa, step-grandsons, Dustin Hicks and Cody Hicks and his wife, Millie and sister-in-law, Hazel Ownby and special cousins, Bruce and Pat Parton. Extended family include brother-in-law, Wiley Wooten and wife, Billie, sister-in-law, Linda Wooten Clevenger and husband, Jerry. He also leaves behind several cousins, nieces and nephews who were very close to him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Reverend Rusty Langford, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Mike Wooten of Marietta, Georgia and Chuck Clevenger of Wapato, Washington will be conducting the service. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with nephews, Dan Ownby, Tommy Burns, Mike Wooten, Jeff Wooten, Mark Haskins and Lyle Haskins serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Sacred Road Ministries to the support of Chuck Clevenger, P.O. Box 400, Harrah, Washington, 98933.
