Irene Freshour Hux, age 95, left us to be with the Lord on September 3, 2011. She passed away quietly at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Bob Hurst, after some years of failing health.

Irene was born December 13, 1915 in the Parrottsville community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hux, parents, Bertie Cogburn Freshour and Henry Freshour, daughter, Diane Hux Lindsey, granddaughter, Jada Hurst, and sister, Suella Nease. She is survived by her son, H.C. Hux and daughter-in-law Sandra of Dandridge, daughters, Marjorie Hurst and son-in-law, Bob of Newport, Rhonda Palmer and son-in-law, Gary of Lexington, KY and son-in-law, David Linsdey of Newport: grandchildren, Rusty, Pam, Dale, Benton, Shanna, and Andy; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Catie, Griffin, Landon, Amelia, Colby, Kelsie, Brittany, Eric, Austin and Hunter.

Irene and the late husband lived and worked all their lives on the family farm. Irene cherished the house and farm and always took pride in it always. Irene delighted in her flowers and maintained her rose garden for many years. Roses were her favorites. Irene was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church which she loved dearly and so cherished her Sunday school class. Irene was a member if the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club for many years, always participating in its many activities and interacting with her many friends. Irene loved to quilt and helped to produce many of the club’s quilts as well as many beautiful ones she made for her own family to enjoy.

Irene will be sadly missed by her family and many close friends of whom she loved dearly.

The family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10:00 am conducted by her pastor, Rev. Stacey McGill. Interment will follow at Faubian Cemetery with Rev. Stacey McGill and Pastor Paul Jennings officiating. Grandsons are serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Amedysis Home Health and Hospice for their kindness, expertise and loving attention.
