Arthur H. Graves, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Friday, October 26, 2001, at Healthsource of Saginaw. Age 82 years. Arthur was born September 20, 1919 in Fergus, Michigan, the son of the late Arthur Henry and Nellie (Blackmer) Graves. Arthur was very proud that he had enlisted into the US Army in 1940 and that he was able to serve his country during World War II (3rd Battalion, 194th, 17th Airborne Division). He had many stories to tell of the Panama Canal, his heavy weapons platoon and glider landings into Belgium, southern France and Wesel, Germany. Following the war, he spent four years in Alaska working with a survey crew for the Alaskan Highway. He married Dorothy Jane Stewart on April 9, 1949. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2000. Arthur worked at the Malleable Iron Foundry for 25 years as a painter and rough carpenter, retiring in 1975. He was an avid amateur archaeologist and a member of the Saginaw Valley Chapter of the Michigan Archaelogical Society. He was a life member of American Legion Post #22. His later years were spent gardening and tending to his half acre of raspberries. Surviving are two daughters, one son and their spouses, Christine and James Haske Sr, Andrew Graves, all of Saginaw; Dawn and James H. Snear, Swartz Creek; three grandchildren, Jared and his wife Amber Wazny, and Kristen Wazny, all of Powder Springs, Georgia; James Haske Jr, Canton, Michigan; one sister and brother-in-law, Isabelle and Leonard Feuerstein, Gladwin, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Arthur was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Bill Graves, Grace Stanley and Jeannie Hamann ....burial services under the auspices of American Legion Post #22 in Roselawn Memorial Gardens....
