Opal Marie Rose Dykes, 78, of Kingsport, died Saturday evening, February 2, 2013 at her home surrounded by her children, from multiple myeloma.

She was born in Clinchfiled, VA; she had lived in Kingsport all her life.

Opal received her LPN degree and worked at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center. She was owner of Town and Country Restaurant for 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hester Chaffin; father, Otis Sutherland; father of her children, Jay L. Rose; 2nd husband, Paul Dykes; sister, Theda Click; brothers, Alton Sutherland, Ray Sutherland, Therman Sutherland, Glen Sutherland and Zane Sutherland and a grandson, Michael York.

Surviving are her children, David "Butch" Rose, Danny Rose, Sherry Rose York, Jimmy Rose and wife, Kathy and Rita Rose; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one great great grandson; sister, Faye Smith; brothers, Bud Sutherland and Marvin Sutherland and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Merryfield, Dr. Zanhke, Dr. Floyd,
Dr. Matthews, Dr. Hodges, Allan Aiken, 4th floor Staff at Indian Path Medical Center, the Regional Cancer Center at Indian Path Medical Center, Church Hill EMS and to Caris Hospice for the excellent care provided by Patti, Stacey, Kim Hall and Kim Martin. Special thanks and big hugs to the staff at Life Care Center of Gray for the care provided to our mother during rehab, for their support, for going above and beyond the call of duty and for allowing our sister Sherry to be there for our mother and us during mom's amazing journey home. Thanks to her special friends, family, neighbors who helped us through the difficult times, to Rev. Michael Garland for all the Spiritual support and a special thank you to Mr. Tim Vaughn for always being there for our family.

The family will receive friends from 5 7 pm Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 pm in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Michael Garland officiating and a Eulogy by Sherry Rose York.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caris Hospice, Johnson City, 110A W. Springbrook Dr., Johnson City, TN 37604.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport, is serving the family of Opal Rose Dykes.
