Dolton, Robert Lee Died November 20, 2010 in Dallas at the age of 88. Born May 25, 1922 in Enid, OK to Halleck E. Dolton and Rosetta M. Kornbaum. Moved to Dallas in 1925. Graduated from Dallas Technical High School in 1940. Attended NTAC in Arlington, TX and SMU in Dallas. In WWII he was a Navy fighter pilot and served as a Landing Signal Officer on the Aircraft Carrier USS Tripoli doing anti-submarine work in the Atlantic. He also served on the USS Wasp in the Pacific with Air Group 86. Married Jeanne Marie Girton on October 25, 1945 in Scranton, PA. He was recalled by the Navy in 1950 for the Korean conflict, serving two additional years. In Korea he flew helicopters and served as chief pilot to Admiral Clark aboard the Battleship USS Iowa. While serving in that capacity he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for the rescue of a fighter pilot shot down in the mountains of North Korea. After the Korean War he worked for Frymire Engineering and M.B. Kiser Engineering as a sales engineer. In the late 1950's to the early 1960's he was active in the Optimist Club of Dallas as the "boys work chairman." In 1963 he became City director for the annual Soap Box Derby for the Optimist Club in Dallas. From 1965-1981 he owned and operated Bob Dolton Co. in Dallas as a heating and air conditioning contractor. In 1981 he started Big D Quickprint with two of his sons, retiring in 1987. In retirement he ran several home-based businesses until 2000. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Jeanne, his parents, brother Delmer, sister Rosehal, and granddaughter Christy. Survived by sons Chris (wife Vicki), Larry (wife Mary), and Jeff. 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Rd., Dallas, TX 75218, officiated by Bishop James Hastings Sr., with Family Visitation 1 hour before services.
