John W. Green

Funeral services were held at 10a.m. Wednesday, July 11 for John W. Green of Pineville who has been director of public relations for the Louisiana Baptist Convention since April 1968.

Green, 62, died Monday night in the intensive care unit of Rapides General Hospital after being admitted July 4 following a severe heart attack.

Services will be held at the Hixson Brothers Funeral Chapel in Pineville with burial was 3 p.m. Wednesday in Rocky Branch Cemetery in West Monroe.

Green is survived by his widow, Robbie Grey Miller Green; three children, Gregory of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Weslyn Pharis and Mrs. Ginger Bordelon of Pineville and three grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. Eula Johnston of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Aunean Hollis of Bernice, La.; Mrs. Madge Burns of Baton Rouge, La., and Mrs. Ruth Lovelady of West Monroe.

A native of Bernice, Green was a graduate of Bernice High School, Louisiana College in Pineville and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Prior to assuming the position as director of public relations, he was pastor in Winona, Miss.; First Baptist Church, Long Beach, Miss, and Fair Park Baptist Church, West Monroe among other Louisiana Baptist Churches.

Green also served as athletic coach and teacher at the Ogden High School in Winnsboro. He has been a contributor to numerous religious periodicals including Pulpit Digest, Eternity Magazine, Christian Economics and several Southern Baptist publications.

While a pastor in Mississippi Green served several denominational offices including chairman of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Executive Board for 12 years; and a member of the Committee on Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention.

Roger Richards, pastor of Pineville's First Baptist Church, officiated. He was assisted by Dr. W. L. Stagg of Pineville, a retired Baptist minister and Mr. Robert L. Lee, executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
