George W. Acker
George Washington Acker died this Tuesday morning, May 21, 1929, at 4:35 o'clock at his home 1002 Mifflin street, after an illness of about 6 months from a complication of diseases.
He was born December 25, 1861, in Henderson township and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Acker. At the time of his death he was aged 67 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Mr. Acker spent the first years of his life on the old family homestead along in Juniata Township, moving to Huntingdon 27 years ago in the home in which he has lived ever since. For 25 years he has been a trusted employee of the Pennsylvania Industrial Reformatory serving as a guard in that institution.
Mr. Acker was married twice, first to Martha Prough, to which union, one son Isaac was born. On Feb. 3, 1921, he he was united in marriage to Miss Naomi Showalter of Huntingdon, who survives him. He is also survived by his son and a half-sister, Miss Lizzie Alloway of Philadelphia.
Mr. Acker was a faithful and consistant member of St. James Lutheran Church and was always seen in his pew on Sunday. His unselfish deeds and devotion to his home were expressive of a truly Christian life.
The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Lutheran Church conducted by the pastor Rev. E. L. Manges. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery.
