Funeral services for Victor Ernest Johnson were held Thursday, Jan. 2, 1964 at 11 a.m. from the Christine Lake Lutheran church. Rev. Vernon Serenius officiated. Pallbearers were Lloyd Palmquist, Virgil Palmquist, Donald Linden, Richard Johnson, Sigfred Wahlin and DeWayne Johnson. Honorary bearers were Fred Johnson, C. W. Anderson, Leroy Schwantz, Thorvald Nelson, Eric Palm and Christ Jacobson. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Victor E. Johnson died at the Douglas County hospital Monday, Dec. 30, 1963 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 11 days. He was born in Lund township, June 19, 1888 and had lived there all his life. He was united in marriage to Blenda Palmquist June 1912. He was post master in Melby from 1910 until his retirement. He had been in the mercantile business with his father and later with his brothers.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Donald of Cedar Rapids, Harveyof Breckenridge, (Florence) Mrs. Wilbur Nelson and (Audrey) Mrs. Lester Johnson of the Melby area. Also surviving are one brother, Ben, and one sister, Mrs. (Esther) Ernest Palmquist of Melby, three half brothers, Harold of Farwell, Einer of Minneapolis, Leonard of Marshall, 2 half-sisters, (Agnes) Mrs. Carl Holm of Holmes City, (Dagmar) Mrs. Orrin Foslien of Garfield, and a stepmother, Mrs. Anne B. Johnson of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, two sisters and five brothers.
