Longtime Maud resident Thelma H. (Martin) Ragan, 87, passed from this life Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Unity Health Center in Shawnee.
She was born March 25, 1920 in Stanley, Okla., to Timothy Luster Cleveland Martin and Leola Francis (Bartlett) Martin.
At the age of thirteen she married, Harry O. Ragan in Arkansas on Dec. 23, 1933. He preceded her in death after 35 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were husbands, Carl Coday and Lannie Sprouse.
During her working career she worked as an active licensed dietician at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City for many years and later at the McBride Bone and Joint Hospital in Oklahoma City for many years. She also worked for Doctor's General in Oklahoma City as a dietician. Even after her retirement she worked for Maud Action for ten years until her health prevented her to continue working.
Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maud. She had also been a member of the Maud Round-up Club and the Action Christmas Store in Shawnee. Thelma also loved to help her daughter Lavonna at the Senior Citizen's Center in Maud.
Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, two sons and daughter-in-law, Otis and Doris Ragan of Del City and Harry Gene and Kay Ragan of Maud; one daugher and son-in-law, Lavonna and Harold Swarb of Maud; one sister, Francis Noland of Grass Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ricky Ragan of Del City, Vickie (Ragan) and husband Mike Carrie of Del City, Tanny (Swarb) and husband Steve Wall of Maud, Harold "Bubby" Swarb of Maud, Cindy (Swarb) and husband Randy Horn of Maud, Shann (Ragan) and husband Steve Fletcher of Bixby and Stacy and wife Lucrecia (Jordan) Ragan of Maud; 15 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild as well as a host of other family and dear friends.
Thelma was preceded by her parents; husbands; two brothers, Woody and Snowden Martin, and by one sister, Pearl Sorenson.
Service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with the Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating.
Casket bearers will be Jack O'Daniel, Buck Day, Paul Lucy, Russell Bob Noland, Joe Ray Noland and Kevin McKinley.
Honorary bearers will be Steve Wall, Randy Horn, Steve Fletcher, Stacy Ragan, Ricky Ragan, Bubby Sward, Kenneth L. Tiffen and Bill Barton.
Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.
