Burial services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in East cemetery, Waverly, for Helen Curtiss Fleming, wife of Dr. S. W. Fleming, of West Palm Beach, Florida. Rev. Francis E. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church of this city, was the officiating minister. Mrs. Fleming died Thursday of last week in Ashville, North Carolina, after an illness of two years.
Deceased was born at Waverly, Illinois, October 26, 1898, being the daughter of Albert B. and Cedie Timmons Curtiss. She was a graduate of Lawrence Kansas high school, having moved to that city with her parents about 39 years ago. She later attended the Kansas State Teachers College and the University of Kansas. In 1925 she was graduated from Washington University School of Nursing, St. Louis. Winning the highest honors of the class, she received a scholarship to Columbia University, New York City. Since her marriage to Dr. S. W. Fleming in 1926, she made her home in West Palm Beach, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, chief surgeon at Good Samaritan hospital; her mother, Mrs. A. B. Curtiss, Smithton, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Willis Laughlin, Haven, Kas.; three brothers, three brothers, Allan Curtiss, Linn, Mo.; Elmer Curtiss, Smithton, Mo.; and W. A. Curtiss, Eldon, Mo. Two aunts, Mrs. Thomas Mitchell and Mrs. H. E. Jolly, and three uncles, Jesse, Otis and John Timmons, are residents of Waverly.
