Professional Baseball Player. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he made his debut with the New York Yankees as a left handed pitcher on June 6, 1939, and finished the season with an 8-3 record. He won 14 games in each of the 1940 and 1941 seasons and was named to the All-Star team in the 1941 season. He started a game in each of the 1941 and 1943 World Series and was a winner in both. His career World Series record was 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched. He finished his career in 1946 with a 45-34 record, 680.2 innings pitched, five saves, 311 strikeouts and a 3.13 ERA. He passed away in Fort Myers, Florida, of natural causes at age 90. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)

Thanks for being a friend and coach to my father, John back in your Richmond Hill High days in New York. You were best friends with my uncle Tony and it was an honor to meet you at his funeral.
