Ed Oliver was a leading professional golfer for 2 decades. He began his golfing career at age 11 as a caddy at the Wilmington Country Club. He became a pro golfer in 1933 at age 18. He was a member of U.S. Ryder Cup teams that prevailed against England in 1947, 1951 and 1953. His pro golf career ended in 1959 due to the onset of cancer. He died in 1961 in Memorial Hospital.
