Harry A. Slane, 81, formerly of Cedar Vale, died March 28, 2005, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Round Mound Cemetery near Cedar Vale.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Slane was born Aug. 6, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark., to Ruby (Williams) and Ferdinand Slane. The family moved to Wichita when he was a child. Slane attended school in Rose Hill and later moved to California.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He and Delphine Ann Pate married Aug. 14, 1953, in Hewins. They lived in the Cedar Vale area for many years.

Slane worked in the maintenance department of Cedar Vale Community Hospital for nearly 20 years. He had also worked on the Cedar Vale and Sedan police departments.

His wife died July 23, 1987.

Survivors include a son, Alan Slane, Arkansas City; four daughters, Vicky Lewis, Judy Fischer and Rebecca Graham, all of Arkansas City, and Suedel English, Bartlesville, Okla.; a brother, Earl Bryant, El Dorado; a sister, ***Norma Christianson, California; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
