Clarence M. Bean, 79, prominent civic leader and noted contractor, died Thursday morning at a Rexburg hospital following a lingering illness.
He was born June 30, 1891, in Provo, Utah, a son of Marcellus and Johannah (Edman) Bean.
He received his early education at Provo and later attended BYU Academy.
He married Eleanor Myrl Cluff in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on August 26, 1915. Wednesday was their 55th wedding anniversary. Following their marriage they continued living in Provo, and moved to Teton in 1920 where they have resided since.
He is a well known contractor throughout the Snake River Valley and had constructed many LDS ward churches as well as assisting in the construction of the Idaho Falls and Hawaii LDS Temples. He was construction foreman on many of the Ricks College buildings.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, and served as superindent of the Sunday School. He was a High Priest at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughters, Max Bean, Juneau, Alaska; Glenn Bean, Rexburg; Mrs. Ralph (Thayl) Olsen and Mrs. Bic (Jerry ) Powell, Salt Lake City, Utah; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Whitney (Vera) Pincock and Mrs. Lelan (Melva) Anderson, Sugar City; Mrs. Ward (Fern) Costley, Rigby; Mrs. Leigh (Leah) Martineau, Newdale; Lloyd Bean, Shelley; Miss Ruby Bean, Kirkland, Washington; Mrs. Al (Ruth) Schnurle, St. Anthony and John A. Bean, Teton.
