G. W. Carpenter, 62, died early this morning at his home, 1619 Branch St, He was the son of the late James F. Carpenter and Mrs. Nettie Beal Carpenter of Rocky Mount. He came to this city in 1911 and worked with the ACL for fourteen years. He also worked for Ray Bandy Motor Co. He was a member of the Clark St. Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Carroway Carpenter; one son, James C. Carpenter; one daughter, Mrs. Hobart Morgan; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Chadwick of Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs. L. C. Green of Rocky Mount; one brother, Pred Carpenter, Richmond, Va.; and his mother. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30pm Wednesday from the Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. J. J. Boone, pastor of the Clark St. Methdist Church will be in charge. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lewis Bowden, Frank Proctor, James Winstead, Alton Cobb, A. C. Parker, and M. T. Holland. Honorary will be. Dr. M.L. Stone, Dr, John Smith, Henry Cutchin, Mark Williams, Ray Bandy, Marion Cash; Frank Harrell, Henry Odom, S.L. Reynolds, Kelly Bell, George Lipe and Members of the New Rocky Mount new Auto Dealers Association and members of the "Ragged Nine".
