Alma Henry, 91, of Pleasant Hill, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at Pittsfield Manor. She was born Jan. 1, 1915 to George and Bessie Booth at Mozier. Most of her childhood was spent in that area of Calhoun County with her two brothers and four sisters. She married Jake Henry Dec. 29, 1935 in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death May 2, 1993. Prior to their move to Pleasant Hill in 1986, Jake and Alma lived and farmed in the Rockport area for nearly 50 years. She was a homemaker and farm wife. Much of her efforts involved preparing and sending boxes of cookies and homemade jelly (or birthdays and Christmas. She made a tradition of quilting quilts for children, all new grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Rockport Christian Church and attended faithfully when her health allowed. She has been a Sunday School teacher, helped with Vacation Bible School and until the past two years enjoyed monthly Ladies Aid meetings, preparing quilts and lap robes for the nursing homes and others.
Besides her parents, siblings and her husband, Alma was preceded in death by one grandson in 1978. The family gratefully acknowledges the kindness and caring efforts of Alma's special neighbor, Vergie Gates. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. With Justin Raulston officiating. Visitation was held Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County.
