Final Rites Held Tues., for Mrs. Lonie Mahalitc

Friends and relatives gathered Tuesday morning to pay final tribute to Mrs. Louis (Lonie) Mahalitc, a native of Colorado County and a resident of the Eagle Lake and Bonus Community since 1940. Mrs. Mahalitc died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, June 22, at the Golf Coast Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She had been in failing health for over a year and a patient in the hospital for the past five weeks. Funeral services were held from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24 with the Rev. Edward Geiser officiating at the Requiem Mass. The Church Choir sang the Mass. She was placed to final rest in the Lakeside Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: John Mahalitc, Jr., of Eagle Lake; Allen George Mahalitc of Rolling Fork, Miss.; Alvin Mahalitc of Houston; James Buxkamper of Ballinger; Wilbert Buxkamper of Houston; and Frank Buxkamper of East Bernard. Rosary was recited at the Chapel of the Mill-Bauer Funeral Home in Eagle Lake at 8 p.m. Monday evening, June 23rd. Mrs. Mahalitc was born on July 22, 1907 in Frelsburg, Texas, the daughter of Frank and Katherine Schobel Buxkamper. She was united in marriage with Louis Mahalitc in Frelsburg on October 4, 1925. The family moved to Columbus and then to the Bonus-Eagle Lake area in 1940, and were prominent in farming in this community. Mr. Mahalitc preceded her in death eight years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Lee (Dorothy) Kohleffel of Eagle Lake; Mrs. W S. (Norma Jean) Hause of Wharton, and Mrs. Edwin (Margaret) Busek of Wharton; three sons, Joe Louis, Mahalitc, who lived with his mother in Eagle Lake; David Mahalitc and Donnie Mahalitc also of this community; one brother Frank Buxkamper of East Bernard; ..Mahalitc and Mrs. John Mahalitc of. Eagle Lake; Mrs. Alfred Zickur of Columbus, and Mrs. Helen Howe of San Antonio; and grandchildren Marilyn and Thomas Mahalitc, Dina Marie and. Allen Kohleffel of Eagle Lake; Carol Ann, Patricia Lynn and Elizabeth Jean Hause and Randall Louis, Cynthia Ann and Sharon Marie Bucek of Wharton. Mrs. Mahalitc was a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and of the Altar Society. She was a wonderful mother and a loyal friend to all who came to know her and she shall be missed dearly by loved ones and friends.
