DAVENPORT - Kenneth J. Mundt, of Davenport, formerly of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Runge Mortuary and one hour prior at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to North Scott Rotary Educational Foundation or St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
Kenneth was born September 3, 1921, in Davenport, the son of Rudolf and Elsie (Ashcraft) Mundt. He was united in marriage to Shirley M. Goodwin on May 31, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1963. He later married Margaret Ellis on April 2, 1966, in Nashua. She preceded him in death in 1984. Kenneth had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he earned two bronze stars. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed at Rockingham-Lunex, Pleasant Valley, for 27 years. He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of North Scott Rotary where he had perfect attendance for 33 years, he was a Paul Harris Fellow, past president serving from 1975 to 1976, and was instrumental in starting their fund raiser auction. He was also a lifetime member of Davenport Moose, and a member of Masonic Lodge Davenport. Kenneth loved bowling. He had been on leagues at 30 Lanes and Bowlmor Lanes, both in Davenport. He bowled a 300 game on March 11, 1982, and at age 82 bowled a 298! He also enjoyed golfing in his league at Rustic Ridge and was a former member of Springbrook County Club, DeWitt. Kenneth's second family was his horses. Since high school he had owned horses and loved to go trail riding. Kenneth was also a past member of the Silver Spurs. Kenneth will be remembered for having no enemies and a great sense of humor. He was a wonderful father who showed great patience while raising his girls and he will be deeply missed by all. Those left to honor his memory include his children, Mary (Dean) Schneckloth, Eldridge, Carol (Eugene) Honert, Lancaster, Pa., Christine (John) O'Neil, Ft. Collins, Colo., Cheryl Berg, Davenport, and Charlene (Arnie) Thode, Davenport; 11 grandchildren, Don Schneckloth, Tom (Kelly) Schneckloth, Kimberly (Kenneth) Guy, Eric Ludtke, Kevin (Jennifer) Honert, Colin Honert, John (Ashlee) O'Neil, Matthew VanHoosier, Michelle VanHoosier, Michael VanHoosier; and six great-grandchildren, Everett, Olivia and Cooper Honert, Reagan and Kaitlyn Guy, and Nicki Enderle. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Velma Mundt, son-in-law, Phillip Berg, and granddaughter, Stephanie Berg. The family would like to thank all the staff at Ridgecrest and Genesis for their special care.
