David Clare Kingsbury, beloved husband and father, passed away the morning of March 10, 2013 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND, surrounded by his loved ones.
David was born on October 2, 1933, in Alpena, Michigan to Harold and Charlotte (Merrill) Kingsbury. David was the oldest of three sons born to this marriage. At the age of nine the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. David graduated from Albuquerque High School then later earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in Santa Fe.
During high school David participated in ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corp) and in 1952 enlisted in the United States Army. David was assigned to the Combat Engineers where he went through Officer Candidate School, receiving a commission as a Second Lieutenant. In 1953 he was transferred to Korea shortly after the cease fire was negotiated. David was mustered out of the Army in December of 1954 as a 1st Lieutenant and subsequently enrolled at the University of New Mexico.
On May 31, 1958, David married Annette Petersen in Chicago, Illinois, where Annette was originally from. They made their home in New Mexico, primarily Santa Fe. To this union five children (of whom David was extremely proud) were born. Kathleen (James) Bunting of Golden, CO, Laura Anderson of Castle Rock, CO, Eileen (Sheldon) Chipp of Fallon, NV, David Kingsbury Jr. of Albuquerque NM and Richard (Amber) Kingsbury of Edgewood, NM. David also had two 'adopted' step-sons, Al Echeverria of Golden, CO and Viktor Forsell of Linkoping, Sweden. Viktor was hosted by Dave and Annette as an exchange student after they moved to Bismarck. Annette passed away in October of 1993.
In March of 1957, David entered the New Mexico State Police, eventually being assigned to State Police Headquarters and being promoted to Sergeant in 1967, to Lieutenant in 1968, Captain in 1972 and to Major in 1983. David retired from the State Police in 1985. David and Annette moved to Bismarck, ND where he began a second career working for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for the State of North Dakota. David retired from the State of North Dakota in April of 1995.
On August 26, 1994, David married Georgia Miller with whom he enjoyed 18 years. In their retirement years they traveled in their fifth wheel camper to all the states west of the Mississippi River and several states to the east as well. They also traveled to various Canadian provinces. David and Georgia also traveled to Sweden to attend the wedding of Viktor Forsell.
In 1994 David joined Charity Lutheran Church where he and Georgia have remained active members. There he participated in the Alpha program, was Director of the Lay Ministry Board for a period of time, participated in Bible studies, and for a considerable number of years, assisted Georgia in organizing and setting up the Lord's Supper.
Dave was active in fishing and hunting, wood carving, was an avid reader and had a great love for classical music.
In addition to his children named above he leaves one brother, Paul of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his wife Georgia and her children, Lori Buck of Crystal, MN, Gwen (Randy) Nagel of Bismarck, ND, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, his parents, and one brother.
