Abdel Halim Hafez
Birth: Jun. 21, 1929
Ash Sharqiyah, Egypt
Death: Mar. 30, 1977
London
Greater London, England

Without a doubt no living or dead entertainer has ever achieved such a tremendous amount of fame and admiration by so many people in the Arab world of music and beyond. Halim was a master oboe player, he graduated from Academy of Arab Music in 1948. However, what made Halim a superstar was the combination of his acting ability and his warm and romantic voice which got him the nick name of “Nightingale” (Andalib) in Arabic . Since Abdel’s first public appearance in 1952, he had a starting role in 16 movies, made hundreds of programs for TV and radio in Egypt and recorded over 260 songs which are still on top of the chart and are still considered best sellers . Abdel Halim suffered from Belharesia disease since his childhood which finally took his life in 1977. He died at the age of 48 while in King’s College Hospital in London. At least 4 Egyption girls took their own life when they heard Abdel Halim was dead. He is buried in Cairo Egypt. (bio by: Shahriar Tashnizi)
