Moses Cockrell III, was the oldest son and second child of Thomas and Elizabeth Huey Cockrell. His name, Moses, was a family name going back to his great grandfather. Moses III, Lear Cealia and younger brothers were named in the settlement their mother made with them after their father's death. She was planning to remarry in her old age.
