Monaco Royalty. Born Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand de Grimaldi. Grandson of Prince Louis II, son of Princess Charlotte, Louise, Juliette, Duchess of Valentinois and of Prince Pierre-Marie-Xavier-Antoine-Melchoir, Count of Polignac. He succeeded his grandfather on May 9, 1949, and ruled the Principality of Monaco for more than 50 years. The tiny principality became world famous in 1956, when Prince Rainier married American movie star Grace Kelly. (bio by: MC)
