Milton Junction - Services for Shirley E. Astin, 72, who died Friday in Mercy hospital, Janesville, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Astin home, 513 E. Madison avenue. The Rev. W. S. Carr of the Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Whitewater. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday night.
Mr. Astin was born in Whitewater, Jan. 9, 1874, and grew to manhood there. He was married on Nov. 27, 1895, to Lottie Rockwell and they lived in Whitewater until 1908 when they moved to Crandon, coming from there to Milton Junction in 1911 where he has since lived. Mrs. Astin died June 21, 1942, and Mr. Astin has lived in his house alone since that time.
While in Crandon both he and Mrs. Astin became members of the Methodist church there.
Mr. Astin worked for the county highway department as patrolman and drove the last team of horses that were used by the county. He gave up this work some time ago because of ill health.
He is survived by four sons, Lawrence, Elmer, George and Lynn Astin, all of Milton Junction; and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Frederick, Milton Junction, and Mrs. Philip Hull, Janesville; and 13 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. E. P. Roe, Whitewater, who is a patient in Mercy hospital at the present time. A son, LeRoy, and a daughter, Rosetta, died in 1918.
