Rosa Nell Mortimer Montgomery
Mrs. Rosa Nell Mortimer Montgomery, 83, of Aberdeen, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at the Aberdeen-Monroe County Hospital after a long illness. She was born on Sept 5, 1913 in Winona to James G. and Anna Belle Scruggs Mortimer and had lived in Aberdeen since 1945. She was a graduate of the Winona High School and Blue Mountain College. Mrs. Montgomery worked as a legal secretary to Attorney Fred Smith until her marriage and worked for Houston and Houston
Attorneys in Aberdeen until she started teaching. She retired At Aberdeen School System in 1973.
Mrs. Montgomery also assisted her husband in Queen City Furniture Store for over 40 years. She was a former member of the Twentieth Century Club and was a member of the Aberdeen First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Director of the WMU Association and was one of the originators of the church library.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Sat. Feb. 22, at the Aberdeen First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Matthews, the Rev. Bill Davis and the Rev. Jimmy Harrington officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen with Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Charter Wesley Montgomery of Aberdeen: one daughter, Anne Lusk and husband, Jimmy Lee, of Aberdeen; one son, Greg Montgomery of Nashville, Term.; four grandchildren, Lee Lusk, Picket! Lusk and wife Tina, Jay Montgomery and wife Angie and Marcie Montgomery; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Lusk and Kirsten Montgomery; two sisters, Vera Mortimer of Winona and Sarah Wainwright of Hattiesburg; one brother, George Mortimer of
Winona; and one sister-in-law, Hazel Mortimer of Winona.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Willie M. Wilson and one brother, John Mortimer.
Pallbearers were D.B. Allen, Jr., Fred Robinson, Charles R. "Bubba" Smith, Jr., Tommy White, Mike Raley and Dr. Roger Wright
Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Robert E. Coghlan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to go to Aberdeen First Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
