Retired Sgt. Major George Edward Shea, Jr., 66, of Jacksonville, passed away early Thursday morning at Onslow Memorial Hospital. George was preceded in death by his wife, Sheryl Shea. He is survived by his son, Michael Shea of Cottage Grove, Minn.; his daughter, Patricia M. Shea – Edgell and her husband Stanton of Jacksonville; his brother Charles Michael Shea of Winsted, Conn.; his sister Maureen Roy of Windsor, Conn.; and grandchildren, Sydney Shea, Logan Shea, Camryn Shea, Mason Shea, Aaron Edgell and Laura Edgell. Visitation for George will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville on Monday, March 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville at 1 p.m. with Pastor Thurman of Pine Valley UMC officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation. Online condolences may be left at JDNews.com.
