Margaret Louise Carr, Margaret Louise Carr, a daughter of Julian Shakespeare Carr, Sr. and the former Miss Margaret Louise Cannon, was born on the 12th of September 1903 in Durham, North Carolina. Margaret's maternal grandfather, James W. Cannon, founded Cannon Mills, the world's largest textile company located in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

On November 3rd 1923, Margaret married Clark Howell, Jr.; with whom she had two children, Clark Jr. and William Barrett.

Clark Howell, the son of Clark Howell (1863-1936), and the grandson of Captain Evan P. Howell (1839-1903), was publisher and president of the Atlanta Constitution from 1936-1960. He also served as the vice chairman of Atlanta Newspapers Inc.
