Lassen Rites At 2 Friday
Hans J. Lassen, 68, Muscotah grocer, died suddenly Monday at his home in Muscotah, where he had lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lassen. He worked at the store Monday morning.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chaney mortuary in Horton, the Rev. R. T. Wentling of Smith Center officiating. Burial will be in Muscotah cemetery with Masonic graveside services by the Muscotah lodge.
Mr. Lassen was born at Whiting June 5, 1894, a son of Hans J. and Engebore Iverson Lassen, early day immigrants to this county from Denmark. He attended schools in Jackson county.
He and the former Grace Elizabeth Ellson were married Feb. 27, 1917. She died Sept. 8, 1928.
Mr. Lassen farmed in the Muscotah community until 1928, when he purchased a half interest in the grocery business from his father-in-law, Charles Ellson. He purchased the remainder of the business in 1945.
His son became a partner in the business after returning from service in 1946 from World War II.
Mr. Lassen was a great lover of sports and was respected by everyone in the community. He was especially fond of young people.
In addition to his son Ralph, he leaves two brothers, Ernest and Alva Lassen, and two sisters, Christina and Meta Lassen, all of Muscotah.
A brother, Henry Lassen, died Dec. 14, and a son died in infancy.
Hans Lassen was a member of the Muscotah Congregational church and of Lodge No. 116, AF and AM at Muscotah.
Carls Anderson, F. D. Christ, Fred Kiehl, Bean Lawrence, Lloyd Tinsley and Mike Wilson will be pallbearers.
