Squire Watts, son of Francis Watts and Jane Means Watts was shown in the 1860 census as having a farm valued at $ 3,000 with possessions valued at $ 1,500. This is in contrast to his neighbors only one of whom had more land value and less cash. His son, Thomas, who was a carpenter in the 1850 census also had land valued at $ 1,200 with $ 200 in possessions. Also on the farm was Polly Vandyke who was listed as "spinster" and was 74 years old. She had $ 500 of possessions. She probably was related to Electa Watts VanDyke by way of sister in law. Electa was a cousin of Squire and was a daughter of John and Polly (Cowell) Watts.
