Film and Stage Actor. Considered a legend of the theater and of Italian cinema. He began working in theater at the age of sixteen with the puppet theater, the Sicilian traditional theater. In 1884 was hired by the marionettes company of Michele Insanguine. In 1889, he came into contact with the world of variety theater and worked in several Sicilian theaters until 1899, when he joined the theater company of Giovanni Grasso who played mainly in dialect. In 1902, he started his collaboration with the director, scriptwriter and Italian poet Nino Martoglio who was director of his company since 1907 and who wrote for him "San Giovanni decollato" and "L'aria del continente". He worked with Marinella Bragaglia with which he founded in 1912 the theater company called Drammatica Compagnia Siciliana Marinella Bragaglia - Angelo Musco and later the company Comica Compagnia Siciliana del Cav. Angelo Musco, where joined the actress Rosina Anselmi, who had the support of the critic Renato Simoni and of the writer and playwright Luigi Pirandello. The Nobel Prize winner wrote for him some comedies including notably "A birritta cu' i ciancianeddi", "Liolà" and "Pensaci, Giacomino!", from this comedy was made into a movie where he starred as a leading actor. His film career began in 1932 and was a great success. In his film career, he stared in ten films considered masterpieces of Italian cinema. During the 20s and 30s, Musco and his theatrical company made numerous tours in Italy and around the world, achieving tremendous success. His international debut came in 1927 on the stage of the Manhattan Opera House in New York with the show "L'aria del Continente" by Martoglio. According to many his talent was in his comic timing and psychological interpretation of the characters that he represented. In 1937, he starred in his last show at the Teatro Olimpia in Milan, after his performance he was struck by an attack of angina pectoris and died. In 1953, the director and screenwriter Giorgio Walter Chili directed a documentary film about his life, "Once upon a time Angelo Musco". (bio by: Ruggero)
