George Russell Almes
George Russell Almes, 65, of 2977 Fourth St., Detroit Beach, died of cancer at 5:15 this morning in Monroe Hospital. He had been in ill health 16 months and in the hospital 23 days.
Friends may call at the Maurice Funeral Home after 7 tonight. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The Rev. William O. Moulton, D.D., will officiate, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The son of Harry W. and Laura B. Almes, he was born May 6, 1896, at Home City, Pa. He married Edna Berry Sept. 30, 1920, at Wellsburg, W. Va. They moved to Monroe from Newton Falls, Ohio, in 1931.
Mr. Almes enlisted in the Army April 5, 1918. He served in France from May 22, 1918 to June 1, 1919 and received his discharge June 5, 1919. Mr. Almes was employed as a loaders helper at Republic Steel Co. for 30 years.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Wilbur Russell Almes, of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Carter and Mrs. Lucille Elliott of Monroe and four grandchildren.
