Arnold R. Buck, 93, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Arnold was born on June 16, 1911, in Murphysboro, to Rudolph Buck and Adela (Vogel) Buck. Mr. Buck married Vivian Imhoff on Jan. 31, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, and he served for 16 months in the European Theater and was honorably discharged as a tech-sergeant with numerous citations and honors.

In 1954, he bought his father's grocery store on South 20th Street in Murphysboro and ran the store until his retirement in 1985. Arnold loved to walk and be outdoors.

Mr. Buck was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 127 and a charter member of the VFW Post No. 7190.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Lorena Maloney of Carbondale; four nieces, Jane Farris, Kate Borgsmiller, Connie Fielding and Marilyn and husband Ed Willis; one brother-in-law, William Edward Imhoff of Portland, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Blanche Imhoff of Murphysboro; and his very close neighbors, Bob and Norma Tucker of Murphysboro.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Buck; two sisters, Loretta Blackwood and Ruby Kunce; two infant twin sisters; two nephews, Bob Maloney and Skip Blackwood; and his parents.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post No. 127, VFW Posts No. 7190 and 2605, and the Jackson County DAV Chapter No. 69. ...
