Bonnie Lorraine (Wardlaw) Hilton, 87, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at her home.
She was born on August 13, 1924, in Whiteselle Township, Cleveland County, Arkansas, daughter of the late Robert Wilson Wardlaw and Ethel Zettie (Wilson) Wardlaw. During World War II, Mrs. Hilton worked at Douglas Air Craft in Inglewood, California where she met her future husband, Shelby E. Hilton Sr., Sergeant in the Air Force Instrument Department, as he was being deployed to the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
After the war, they married and became co-owners of a Western Auto franchise in St. Paul, Virginia, from 1958 until 1984, which included her home decorating center. They also contracted and built homes and were hotel managers for Econo Travel Lodge Motels until their retirement. Mrs. Hilton enjoyed researching her Wardlaw family genealogy which she had traced back to the 1200's in Scotland. She traveled with members of the Wardlaw Clan to Scotland in 1997 to visit the ancestral home sites. She enjoyed travels with her husband to Hawaii, Spain, Africa, and Mexico. For her family, she wrote engaging stories about growing up on a farm and the deep woods of Arkansas. Several of her short stories were published in "Melange." Her many talents included fiber arts, home decorating, and landscaping.
Her kindness and devotion to her family and friends will be sorely missed by her husband, Shelby E.
