Toccoa, Ga. - W. H. T. (Bill) Acree, 78 well known Stephens County citizen died early Thursday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. He had suffered a heart attack Tuesday night at his home in Toccoa.
A son of the late James Clayton and Francis Kesler Acree, he was born Oct. 26 1886 in Banks County but had made his home in Toccoa for the past 60 years. He was the owner and operator of the Acree Grocery and Market on Falls Road, was a member of the First Methodist Church of Toccoa, a member of the Wesley Bible Class and had served on the board of stewards of the church for a long number of years.
He was also an active civic and religious leader of the community and a faithful supporter of the Toccoa Falls Institute since 1911.
Survivors: his widow, Mrs Rebecca Simpson Acree; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. McColough, of McMinnville, Tenn., Mrs. Roy Wheeler, Miss Velma Acree and Mrs. Merrill Chambers, all of Toccoa; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Delia Dailey of Atlanta; tow half-sisters, Mrs. Cora Scroggs of Atlanta and Mrs. Josephine Dykes of Tulsa, Okla; two half brothers, Holman Acree of Miami Fla., and Allen Acree of Marietta..
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, First Methodist Church in Toccoa, the Revs. Kenneth Deitle, Gordon Shirley, Gene Powers and Kelly Barnes officiating. Burial in the Toccoa Cemetery.
