John Ray Routh, 53, of 1009 S. Madison St., Ludington died unexpectedly May 3 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon.
Better known to his family and friends as Big John¯, he was born August 17, 1952 in Uvelde, Texas. He lived in many different states including Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, and his favorite, Texas. He was married on May 28, 1971 to Jannett Phillips and she survives.
John was a licensed mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles, fishing, hunting and camping with his uncles and cousins. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in the early 70s.
In addition to his wife, Jannett, he is survived by his mother, Marida Mitchell and his stepfather, Thomas Mitchell of Scottville; his stepmother Francis Routh of Kansas; his son, Jesse (Judy) Routh of Lowell; his two daughters, Michele (John) Sibley and Cindy Routh, both of Ludington; ten grandchildren, twelve brothers and sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Nathan Routh of Kansas.
Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8 with the Rev. Charles McDaniel officiating. The service will be followed by Military Rites conducted by the Edwin H. Ewing American Legion Post 76. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the cemetery.
