LTC John Iglehart "Jack" Turnbull

Death: Oct. 18, 1944

Hall of Fame Lacrosse Player. Known as the "Babe Ruth" of lacrosse, he was Captain of the 1928 and 1932 United States Olympic teams, and was a 3-time All-America at Johns Hopkins. He joined the Maryland National Guard in 1940 and was activated for service in Europe when the United States entered the war. He was shot down over Belgium returning from a bombing mission over Germany in October 1944.. Originally buried in Henri-Chappelle Cemetery in Belgium, he was brought back to his home at the request of his mother. (bio by: daytonflyers)
