Margaret S. Cox was born in Canalou, Missouri on January 17, 1921, to S. G. and Goldie Sanders.
She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1943 with a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. Margaret taught home economics in Guthrie, Oklahoma for three years until she married James L. Cox of Lawton on September 1, 1946 in Oklahoma City. Margaret and James lived in Lawton until 2007 when they moved to Oklahoma City.
While in Lawton, Margaret was the founding director of the Head Start Program for the Lawton Public Schools from 1969 to 1982. Margaret was a 50 plus year member of PEO, Chapter I, being initiated on May 9, 1955. She was also active in AAUW, Lawton Book & Play, and Lawton Campfire. Margaret was a member of the Thomison Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church in Lawton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Cox, and her sister, Juanita Whitchurch.
