James "Pawpaw" Allen Plemmons, 84, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away February 22, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley.

Born August 18, 1927, in Haywood County, NC, a son of the late William B and Martha Plemmons. Jim was a retired Army veteran where he served in Germany at the end of WWII through Vietnam. He moved to Beckley in 1967 on a final tour of duty with the Army. After retiring from the Army he settled in Daniels. He went to work for DOL Mine Academy as a maintenance worker in Beaver. There he was affectionately known as Buzzard Bait. He retired from federal service at the age of 70.

Jim's family was his life and he had two favorite hobbies, Bingo at VFW Post 32 and Mountain State RVA#57 Bingo, and watching ACC basketball, especially Duke.

He was preceded in death by his wife Delma (Della) Robbins Plemmons on September 14, 1994.


The family wishes to express their appreciation to the kind and caring staff at the Beckley VA Medical Center who took care of Jim.

Service of remembrance was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Peace Chapel in Beckley with family members speaking. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, where Beckley VFW Post 32 Honor Guard conducted military graveside rites.

Visitation started at 1 p.m. and lasted until service time on Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
