Mrs. Shirley Faye Smith Byrne, 62, of Blackshear, died Wednesday morning (February 27, 2013) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born in Waycross to the late Bruce Smith and Zoie Riggins Smith. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Smith and a sister, Cathy Smith. Mrs. Byrne grew up and lived in Blackshear most of her life.

Mrs. Byrne was a Registered Nurse who at Satilla Regional Medical Center, and also as a visiting nurse, and lab technician with Dr. Lina Heath Harper. Mrs. Byrne was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Waycross, the Junior Women's Club and Waycross Service League.

She is survived by her husband of over 36 years, William "Bill" Byrne, a son William Barrett Byrne and his wife Jenny of Bolivar, Missouri, two grandchildren: Anna Lee Byrne and Charles Marion Byrne, her mother, Zoie Riggins Smith, of Blackshear, three sisters: Barbara Boyett, husband Charles of Eastman, Ann Smith of Eastman, Geri Anderson and her husband Jack of Waycross, three brothers: Bruce Wayne Smith of Blackshear, Mickey Smith of Baxley, Daniel Smith and his wife Tina of Baxley and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorialization will be by cremation. The family will receive friends at Miles-Odum Funeral Home, Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m..
