He attended school and helped on the family farm until he left to attend Purdue University at LaFayette, Indiana, majoring in pharmacy.
Working as a registered pharmacist in Cincinnati, Ohio, he met and married Katherine Backus. They moved to Allegan, Michigan where their son Harry was born.
In 1895, they moved to Plainfield, Wisconsin where Orville became identified with buying and selling potatoes.
In 1911, they moved to Amberg, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #208, Amberg Granite Grange and Marinette County Pomona Grange.
He died February 16, 1945 and his wife Katherine died in 1953.
