Mary Elizabeth Mears, 54, of Shawnee, Ks, passed away unexpectedly at Shawnee Mission Hospital on March 9, 2012. Mary Elizabeth was born June 26, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Bishop Ward H.S. and graduated in 1975. Mary worked as a dental assistant for 20 years in Kansas City, Mo, respectively.
After moving to Shawnee, she became an active member of St. Joseph parish where both of her children attended grade school. She served as a CYO track coach where her teams won city championships. Her and Mark served as Co-Chairman of the St. Joe annual dinner dance as well as serving for many church related functions. She served for many years as a room- mother for her children. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and special friends at the Lake of the Ozarks. For the last 10 years, Mary has worked as a retail associate at Halls on the Plaza. Mary loved to make people happy. She had an ability to find any reason, big or small, to show appreciation to others. It was in Mary's nature to put others first and impact those around her. Her excitement for life and energy was contagious. To those who knew her know how much she enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was always willing to make and serve dishes to those in need, as well as set an extra place at the Thanksgiving dinner table. She was always willing to help the elderly and less fortunate.
Mary is preceded in death by Father, Joseph C. Tluscik and Brother, Michael E. "Sac" Tluscik. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 27 years, Mark A. Mears D.V.M., son, Cassidy, daughter, Madison, her mother, Janet Tluscik of K.C.K., sister, Helen Tluscik of K.C., M.O., brother, David Tluscik (Janice) of San Diego, C.A., and aunts Mary Anne (Tate) Thomas of K.C.K., and Sister Mary John Thomas of Denver, C.O.; 13 nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed and always loved.
The family suggest memorials be sent to the K.C.K. Special Olympics and St. Joseph Church in Shawnee, K.S. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 12th from 4-7 P.M. at St. Mary's-St. Anthony's Parish. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, March 13 at St. Mary's-St. Anthony's Parish with Father Mike Hawkins presiding. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary in Kansas City, Kansas. A special "Thank You" to Uncle Ronnie Mears, and Aunt Helen "Honey" Tluscik, and the special Doctors and Nurses at Shawnee Mission Hospital.
