Herschel Howard Alexander, son of John E. and Maud (Willis) Alexander, was born March 14, 1921 on a farm south of the Greenwood School in Webster County, Mo. and departed this life April 17, 2002 in Webco Manor, Marshfield. He was 81 years, 1 month and 3 days of age.

Herschel was a veteran of WW II, serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. His tours of duty included England, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

When he returned home, he purchased a farm where he and Juanita (Andrews) lived and worked after they were married in December 1947. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage before Juanita's passing on September 15, 2000. Herschel also worked at Montgomery GMC for 11 years.

Herschel and Juanita became members of the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church in 1964, and attended many churches in the area where they fellowshipped with so many special friends. They enjoyed visiting with all their neighbors and friends and attended church and musical events at the Greenwood Community Club where Juanita played in the band. Their relationship with friends, neighbors and family was the most important part of their lives.

Preceding Herschel in death were his wife, Juanita; his parents; and one sister, Lorene Newton.

Survivors include one sister, Mildred Rader, Marshfield, Mo.; one brother-in-law, James Andrews, Marshfield; one niece, Julie Crawford and husband, Charles, Reeds Springs; three nephews, Doug Andrews and wife, Debra, Marshfield, Jerry Rader, Marshfield, and Wilbur Newton, Arizona; one grand-niece, Lachelle Newton, California; and one special friend, Judy Kensinger, Marshfield.

Funeral services for Herschel H. Alexander will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, in Day Funeral Home, Marshfield. Rev. Jack Day will officiate. Burial will follow in Marshfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Community Club in Herschel's memory and left at the funeral home.
