BETTENDORF - Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Eber J. "Len" Leonard , 95, a resident of Bettendorf, will be Noon on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park where American Legion Post #26 will conduct military graveside services. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the noon service. Len passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at St. Mary's Healthcare, Davenport.
Eber Jack Leonard was born on June 3, 1917, in Davenport, the son of Harry P. and Lena (Baasch) Leonard. He was raised in the west end of Davenport, and graduated from Davenport High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, where he met the love of his life Ruth A. McEachern, who was also serving our country as a WAC. They were united in marriage July 22, 1945, at Immaculate Conception in Salem, Mass. and have enjoyed over 67 years together.
Len worked as a typesetter for 48 years at the former Wagner's Printers, retiring in 1983. In his retirement he kept busy with woodworking projects. Len was both a founding and active member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf and enjoyed his many friendships there.
Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Ruth, and their son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Marilee Leonard, Bettendorf; three grandchildren, Jeffery (Sarah) Leonard, Kristine (Larry) Ratigan, all of Davenport, and James (Jackie) Leonard of Bettendorf; six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Claire, Nicholas, Jordan, Matthew, and Hope.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Leonard. May they rest in peace.
