Henry J. Starbuck is said to have stowed away on a whaler from Nantucket in the Azores when he was about 10, the Captain made him a cabin boy and later adopted him.
Some say he could have actually been a son of the Captain from a previous trip to the island.
Henry later became a Captain and skippered the ships "Franklin" and "Daniel Webster" out of Nantucket.
He married Abby Gould Bourden of Nantucket, they had two children.
They moved to East Bridgewater, Massachusetts by 1860 and were listed there in the censuses of 1860, 1870, and 1880.
In an 1879 map they are shown living at the junction of what is now Route 14, Whitman, MA and Harvard St. East Bridgewater.
Henry & Abby are buried in the Northville Cemetery on Oak Street in East Bridgewater, MA.
Capt Henry Starbuck, a retired sea captain, died at East Whitman [sic], Monday night, aged 84. He was a native of Portugal. He leaves two children.
