Carl L. Lasher, 93, of Kittanning, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Armstrong County Health Center. He was born March 7, 1919, in Ford City, a son of the late Boyd L. Lasher and Bessie V. (Mann) Lasher. He married Martha B. Harding, April 21, 1940, and they enjoyed 72 years together. He retired from PPG Industries in Meadville in 1981. Carl was a Naval veteran of World War II as a seaman first class 5V-6, and liked to tell how his ship was sunk in battle and how the other two men in his gunnery list their lives and how God saved him and brought him back to his wife and children. He truly enjoyed singing and was a church song leader for many years, ministering in song at church functions with his wife, Martha. Survivors include three children, Lloyd (Sue) Lasher, of Lake Villa, Ill., Sally (Dale) McMillen, of Kittanning, and Delbert (Darla) Lasher, of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Michelle Lasher, of Nevada, Amanda Lasher, of Chicago, Phillip (April) McMillen, of Karns City, Justin McMillen, of Kittanning, David (Miranda) Lasher, of Ohio, and Brock Lasher, of Carlisle; great-grandfather to Madden, Rossi and Colin McMillen, Zack, Anna, Grace and Ethan Lasher; and brother, Roy H. Lasher, of Creighton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha B. Lasher, Dec. 25, 2012; sisters, Joy B. (Lasher) White and Edith M. (Lasher) Fetterman; and an infant brother, Russell E. Lasher. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Kittanning, and from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Earl Pelton will officiate. Interment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.

Lasher of Creighton. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha on December 25, 2012; two sisters: Joy B. (Lasher) White and Edith M. (Lasher) Fetterman; and infant brother, Russell E. Lasher. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow, Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning. Additional visitation will be held from 1PM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the funeral home until the time of funeral services at 2PM. The Rev. Earl Pelton will officiate. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.

Carl served aboard the USS Mahan (DD-364), which was damaged by Kamikaze attacks on December 7, 1944. The damage was so immense that it had to be abandoned and was sunk by friendly fire following the attack.
