Funeral services for M. Sgt. James L.Wahls, 37,former resident of Saybrook, were being held at 2 pm Wednesday at the First Christian church, Gibson City. The Rev.Lester A. Ringham officiated and burial was in the Gibson City cemetery. Sgt. Wahls died Oct 13 in Germany of a rare blood disease. He was a member of the 691 6th Radio Squadron Mobile stationed at Weisbaden,Germany and served its Sergent major.
Born December 31,1925 at Saybrook, a son of Frederick and Bethel Roach Wahls, he had been in the service more than 19 years and was stationed at Chaute Air Force base several times.
He was married to Miss Juanita Donner of Gibson City, on Sept. 22, 1946. He leaves his wife, two sons, Jerry, 16 and Stephen, 13 and one daughter, Vickie, 14, his father Fred Wahls of Saybrook, one sister,Mrs. Janice Mallon, Denver, Colo, and one brother,Donald, Camdenton, Mo.
He was a member of the first Christian church of Gibson City, Gibson City Lodge #733, AF & AM and Le Lowery Post #568, American Legion, Members of the local Masonic Lodge conducted the Masonic services at 9 pm at the Lamb funeral homer.
